90s Hotel

I found this hotel entirely on accident while on vacation. From the evidence left inside, it seems to have closed sometime in the late 90s and remained mostly untouched, except by a horde of stray cats living in the attic.

Pompeii

I suppose Pompeii doesn’t exactly count as bando, but there’s nothing quite like the death of an entire city to leave it desolate. The fact that the paintings in the brothel survived is quite amusing. It’s a very sobering experience to stand in the ruins here, and I can’t wait to get a chance to …

Bedrock City

Recently this strange little homemade Flintstones-themed park closed its doors forever. I feel fortunate to have visited it in all its decaying glory before it vanished forever.

Anatomy Institute

Somewhere on tucked away in a semi-residential Berlin neighborhood lies the empty husk of what used to be an anatomy institute. From the morgue in the basement to the room full of scattered files and the eerie lifeless auditorium, this is quite a fun location. It’s a shame that it’s so over-visited and destroyed. I …

Glass Bottle House

Somewhere in the middle of a German forest lies a decrepit old house with multiple walls comprised of bottles. There are many stories about what may have happened to the owner; we aren’t sure which is the truth. Regardless, it’s a fascinating little spot, and well worth the drive.

Manicomio di Voghera

Thus far my favorite location and biggest undertaking, Manicomio di Voghera stands forgotten and rotting in a tiny rural Italian town. I scrambled through a gap in a chainlink fence, through a field of pokey plants, through another small hole in a brick wall, more bushes, and finally through a knocked out glass pane in …

Train Station and Factory Ruins

While in a tiny town in rural Italy for a shoot, my photographer and I went on a little adventure to some nearby ruins. The factory was once a canning factory, but is now an empty husk. The train station was abandoned for many years, just up the trail from the factory. Though both are …

House of Chairs

We pulled off the side of the road for an amazing view and it just so happened to be next to a giant abandoned bar/restaurant and this destroyed house. I managed to climb over part of a lower roof and get into the restaurant, but it was completely dark in there and I did not …

Hotel Susanna Cox

Abandoned for decades, gutted like a dead fish, and near collapse- held up with new beams in the middle rather than being left to implode- Hotel Alpenhof (Susanna Cox) lies barely hidden in the trees next to a large, gorgeous Austrian lake. Sigs warn of danger, but the front door sways right open and beckons …
